In the midst of the making of Harmony Logan also turned 2! Originally I was going to just do a number 2 cake because we had his party at the Little Gym. Then Logan fell in love with Mickey Mouse and I knew his cake had to be Mickey!
Mickey's face is made of marshmallow fondant which I cut out freehand.
The edging of the cake is strawberry marshmallow fondant. The yellow border is butter cream icing.
I was amazingly surprised at how easy it was for me to cut out the shapes to make up his face. The eyes were by far the most challenging!
The polka dots and the number 2 surrounding mickey are also made of marshmallow fondant
Mickey's ears are two six inch chocolate cakes which I cut so they would meet the center ten inch cake.
From this I learned that I need to work on my borders (they aren't as straight as I would have liked) I also learned that freehand cutting is actually easier than trying to make templates for each piece.
In the end my 2 year old couldn't have been happier!
