Still in the mode of "practicing" for the upcoming birthday party, I decided to make more cupcakes and a cake for a bunco night.
I used the same recipe for the chocolate cupcakes (with one change, I had to use margarine instead of butter) and instead of classic buttercream I decided to try a whipped buttercream. All decorations are made from homemade marshmallow fondant which I made and cut into the circle and dice shapes. I then painted the dots onto the dice. I got my new large round icing tip and I absolutely love it! For the cake I used the whipped buttercream covered with marshmallow fondant topped with two fondant dice and the word BUNCO cut out using my brand new letter cutters.
Things I learned from this practice round: I used way to much icing under the fondant, I don't like Chocolate cake made with margarine instead of butter, I LOVE working with whipped buttercream icing, but I prefer the taste of a classic buttercream icing, when working with fondant cut and or form the embellishments many days in advance (I cut these two days in advance and they still weren't completely dry), my new letter cutters make cute letters but they are a pain the in the rear to use, and last I learned that I love cake decorating!
What can I make for you?
